The only reason I was able to beat Zelda as a kid was the map that came with the game and some Nintendo power guides. A lot of those games would get you lost or hide some pathway behind something stupid. Zelda I remember getting stuck in one of the later dungeons because I didn’t realize that when the monster blocking my path said “grumble grumble” he wanted my meat 🍖.
The Metroid map was hard to follow. I only beat that with the Justin Bailey code. It was easier to run around with the power ups. Castlevania was fucking impossible with the crystal orbs and kneeling for a tornado to warp you. MegaMan is pretty unforgiving in some spots, but you can memorize parts of the board, kinda like ninja gaiden.
I wish you good fortune in the wars to come. I went back to beat Mike Tyson’s Punch out as an adult, and the only reason I beat that was playing on an emulator and saving the game after each successful dodge/hit I got. That like banging my head into a wall.
