Aotearoa Daily Kōrero 16/10/2023 - eviltoast

Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

General pessimism this morning. Would anyone be interested in a couple of weekly threads showcasing non-misery-inducing things? I’m thinking maybe a thread to show off things we’ve made ourselves (building projects, cakes etc) or maybe a photo challenge?

Today I will be telling my boss Im quting come Feb. It’s not a great time, but in my industry it never is, and I feel like giving more notice is better than waiting for a “good time”.

I don’t really owe them anything and my leaving isn’t gonna effect the behemoth of a company, but my boss has been very supportive and so I feel like I owe her atleast that much. The nerves are real though

Good luck! Plenty of notice is best, so they can arrange a replacement and have you train them up before you go.

Yeah, can be a weird experience handing in your notice. It’s good to have some degree of loyalty, but at the end of the day, it’s your livelihood so you’ve got to do what’s best for you.

      Good luck!

It’s natural to feel some anxiety even though you’re doing the right thing. Hope it goes well!

    Daily update:

My throat still hurts, maybe a little less than this time yesterday? I haven’t tried eating yet though.

I am still generally not feeling great, but maybe a little better than yesterday.

Glad to hear you’ve maybe turned a corner. There’s something particularly unfair about being at your worst over a weekend.

Beautiful morning today. Massive overnight improvement in mood.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on sailboat and yachting regulations. It turns out that you [are] allowed to leave NZ territorial waters and sail wherever you want, as long as you don’t enter the waters of another country (unless you have Cat 1 safety certificate & clearance).

I can go ahead and order my timber from Mitre 10 now. Hurry up and build that catamaran before they make it illegal. I’ve lived in far too many rat-infested caravans and boarding houses to believe that these w_____s care about my health and safety.

Enough work for the day. I’ve got to get up on the roof and give it a good clean ahead of a new water tank arriving. We have so much bamboo, the leaves are a pain to get out of the gutters.
