Europe gives Elon Musk 24 hours to respond about Israel-Hamas war misinformation and violence on X, formerly Twitter - eviltoast

A European regulator has issued Elon Musk a stern warning about the spread of illegal content and disinformation on X, formerly known as Twitter, amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. Failure to comply with the European regulations around illegal content could result in fines worth 6% of a company’s annual revenue.

Thierry Breton, the European commissioner for the internal market, said in a letter addressed to Musk on Tuesday that his office has “indications” that groups are spreading misinformation and “violent and terrorist” content on X, and urged the billionaire to respond within a 24-hour period.

The letter comes after numerous researchers, news organizations and other groups have documented a rise of misleading, false and questionable content on X, creating confusion about the current conflict.

All billionaires are pieces of shit. Whatever you vehicle you decided to buy instead, you’re just supporting a different piece of shit billionaire.

You just feel better about it because you don’t hear about them in the news every day.

It’s kinda like voting. Often, the choices are bad vs. worse.

If some billionaire generally keeps to himself but is a nightmare for his staff and personal assistant to deal with, then sure, he’s a piece of shit. Musk goes out of his way to negatively influence society, mistreat his employees at all of his businesses, and encourage terrible behavior in others. He’s a much bigger piece of shit.

One choice is bad, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to make an even worse choice.

Nah, I’m sticking with my little Civic until it dies. Then find another Civic. Wash/repeat. If things go as I expect, I’ll only need one more in my lifetime.

Yup, same. A few months ago I was looking into trading my 12 accord for something newer with bluetooth since my car was worth more than when I bough it thanks to the surge in demand for used cars, but then I remembered it’s still got a lot of life in it and decided not to.

This is how some people need to be dealt with - firm and quick deadlines, with consequences that are actually painful. Otherwise, you get 💩

This is referring a law that came into effect way after the invasion of Ukraine, this July.

Russian misinformation was already covered and Musk / Twitter specifically has been under investigation for it.

Also, Ukrainians / Russians aren’t causing public disturbances across Europe right now while Mulims / Jews and their sympathizers are.

Unrelated to the news, but I genuinely enjoy that news sites are referring to it as “X, formerly Twitter.” Such a stupid name change.
