What apps would it be?

I use that, too. Also features Picture in Picture, background playback, and the default video player.

I was completely unaware of Vinegar, so thank you very much for the info!

Do you by any chance know if this will be affected by the YouTube Adblock ban?

No, it just fetches the raw video file. When YT places ads all they do is pause the vid, inject them thru another instance, then resume the original vid. The overlays are handled by YT imbedded player. Together this gives YT the ability to work sort of like a TV channel.

Regards to the plugin, YT has no idea you’re using it. You’re literally side stepping them.

Do extensions run if I save the pages as webapps? I haven’t gotten 1password to appear in kbin so I’ve assumed they don’t work

It’s been a long time since I used YouTube in Safari because the quality just couldn’t compare to the app. Is it better nowadays?

Oh I use plenty… dict.cc; TikTok; Astroprint; Octoprint and Printables; Xing; LinkedIn; eBay; Etsy; AliExpress; Idealo; Chefkoch; pkmn.help (very beautiful web app btw…); and so on. I got rid of any App I don’t trust and/or where the web app gets the job done.

Somewhat related: I made an iOS Shortcut that lets you customize the icons for web apps. YouTube is definitely in desperate need for that. Just run in on the website before adding it to the home screen.

    Download Shortcut

Same here. Native or bust. I want my apps to use common gestures, key combinations, utilize operating system features like face recognition, have common os theming, obey system preferences like dark mode, and be available offline. Any app I use on the regular must be native (not even that Electron or React Native crap).

Not so much web apps saved to my home screen, but 95% of my web surfing on my iOS devices are through Safari. It’s mostly stuff like streaming services that I use the apps.

I use the Twitter web app, pretty much because I didn’t like how much data the app was collecting on my phone.

I tend not to because I hide all my apps and rely on Siri suggestions and Spotlight to access them. I used to have only one Home Screen with a large widget stack and the Siri app suggestion widget, but the Xbox Cloud Gaming web app is the only way to use it, so I have a second screen with just that on it

I don’t really yet, I sometimes use the Google Meet PWA for work but that’s a bit of a pain in the ass.
