I hate even having to call them martyrs. Martyr implies that someone died for a cause or because of a held belief. The vast amount of these deaths are children, babies, the elderly, the sick, innocents, civilians. They are no fighters, nor combatants. They died no glorious death. They are innocents being mindlessly slaughtered.
Yeah the English translation is misleading. They’re “shuhada” in Arabic, “witnesses”, because they died in a shaheed way (noble death in Islam) so… not really “martyrs”.
