How can you get 250 bicyclists together? Easy, provide a safe place for them to ride! In May, 250 bicyclists got together to ride their bikes here in Columbus. It was very safe, because of the large number of riders and because of the police presence. Sadly, the crowd of bikes came together for the annual Ride of Silence to honor those who have been injured or killed while riding a bicycle on a public road. So while this ride was safe, it memorializes how unsafe our roads are. We could make it safe for people to ride every day and in every community - we’d just have to make conscious choices about how our cities are built and the bike infrastructure we have. So in this episode, we dive into bike crash data and Columbus's "Vision Zero" initiative. 🚲 Join Yay Bikes! 0️⃣ Learn more about Vision Zero Columbus ☎️ Contact Columbus City Council to encourage them to take real action on Vision Zero 🎥 Sten Goes Channel
Columbus is on track to have more people riding bikes die on our roads this year than any year on record. The city isn’t doing nearly enough to protect people who walk or bike.
