At the UN General Assembly, Mali and Burkina Faso reiterated their rejection of a military intervention against Niger, recalling the devastating 2011 NATO-led war on Libya and its role in fueling violence in the Sahel
The Libyan authorization was done by the Security Council (Resolution 1973), with 10 yes votes and 5 abstentions. Here’s the Council’s current members. More than half of them are “global south” countries, which seem to be increasingly fed up with NATO’s bullshit.
Fuck I wish China would be more assertive in taking a stand. It’s really fucking gross to see an abstention here considering what ended up happening to Libya.
I’d love to see China taking a bigger stand as well, but to be fair the West would see this as provocation or as a self-fulfilling prophecy of “Da Evile Rebellious Sneaky Chian-Kneeze!” and China is in the last few stages of developing itself enough materially to openly challenge the west relatively soon, and I figure China doesn’t want to rock the boat until its 100 percent ready.
