I love how Americans need a literal road blocking bump to hit with their tyres to figure out when to stop (and yet because their cars are gigantic that’s overshooting anyway).

I remember being so confused by the weird concrete stumps for ages when I lived there at first. It’s just not a thing here…

Honestly most do not. Plenty of parking lots I go to (mostly supermarkets) don’t have these and people park fine, 90% of the time. People do take advantage and drive across when leaving and entering sometimes, but usually that isn’t an issue either

On the other hand,I still remember trying to go to the movies with friends in a busy shopping plaza and some asshole with huge tires on his truck parked in a way that took up 4 whole parking spaces. I wanted to key up the truck. I wanted super powers that would let me move it to the lake, upside-down. That was like 12-15 years ago and it still makes me irrationally angry a bit.

I doubt these would have stopped that particular truck, but like many seemingly dumb rules, they aren’t for the majority. They’re for the occasional asshole who refuses to abide by the social construct. America certainly panders to those with the whole focus on individualism, but it hardly has a monopoly.

I don’t know what they’re actually for but I’m pretty sure they’re not to bump your tires against intentionally

That’s exactly what they’re used for. It’s to prevent a vehicle from going too far in that direction, which would typically damage a structure or something expensive or harmful

While it is bad they parked in a spot for the disabled, it’s a nice reminder this bike commonly drives around exactly as many people as a car that would take this ENTIRE space, not changing the balance much.

Just pick that fucker up and stick it on the other side of the Toblerone block.

And then revel in the inevitable fistfight with its owner that ensues. (Pro tip: Be sure to win.)

Just run over it or move it? Would be a bit harder if it was a car (with non-handicapped passenger) which was there

Did this place have bike racks?

As someone who worked in a parking lot for years I can tell you 90% of the time the cars that park in these designated spots do not have anything hung from their mirror or on their license plates indicated they are allowed to do so. We couid have theoretically had the cars towed, but when there’s still several empty designated spaces it’s just not worth bothering with.

I’m much more upset about minimum parking lot size requirements built into zoning codes than I am about an easily-movable bike being left in a space for a few minutes.
