I think that depends largely on somebody’s “join” date. If they’re under 6 months old, they probably got banned/censored from Reddit. If they joined in the last 6-12 months, it’s probably because of Reddit’s AI policies. If they joined 12-18 months ago, it was probably due to the API changes shutting down third-party apps. If they’re older than that, then they’re probably just tankies.
i joined lemmy today because i deleted reddit during the API purge and just replaced it with RSS feeds of news orgs before finally digging in to trying this out. and this was literally one of the first comments i saw. incredibly ironic and very hilarious

hey now, some of us are FOSS greybeards
Joke’s on you, I’m on my third account.
(Defunct instance, left due to mods, now here.)
Very true, in fact I forgot that I’m on my second account, myself (RIP, kbin.social).
I also started on kbin, better default web interface by far. But the call of Voyager’s echoes of Apollo was strong.
Happy cake day!
Total coincidence, I swear lol.
Some of us just like Linux.
seeing all this fresh meat… so many future linux enjoyers hehe
API changes for me bruh
