So What Does Everyone Think of the Announcements on 9/13? - eviltoast

Generally curious what everyone thinks, just to start a discussion. I personally like the move to USB-C, but wish that 3.0 was available on the entire line. Colors of both the 15 and 15 Pro are a big miss for me though

Tbh I get the 2.0 on the normal iPhone. They’re using last gen chip (a16) which doesn’t have the 3.0 controller on board. New gen chip has it (a17) and will likely be present on the base model next year.

Underwhelming, and without innovation. Apple did everything they could to make subculture adoption painful and annoying. 15yr old transfer speeds…disgraceful and shameful

The smaller size on the pros is a good thing I guess, titanium is cool but that’s about it. USB-C is finally here but we should not be happy about something that should have been the case years ago. They even raised the price by 50$ here in Canada, so now instead of getting a 128GB base model Pro iPhone for 1400 + tax you get a 128GB base model pro iPhone for 1450+ tax… I was hoping they would at least bump the storage this year, I guess not.

I mean I got my S23 256GB for 700CAD with taxes included, and I can guarantee the iPhones are not 2.5x times better

Boring. Once again I had to watch the event after work and found myself skipping through the majority of the presentations. The only thing that caught my eye was the new action button and titanium chassis. Just need to make the button orange to match my Ultra all around. /s

I still see no reason to “upgrade” from my 12 ProMax.

Sorry, you’re not. All models have USB-C connectors, but the non-Pro models are limited to USB 2.0 speeds. The USB 3.2 controller is part of the A17 processor, so that’s why it’s limited to the Pro line. It’ll make it to the iPhone 16 line, though, but for right now, it’s a Pro feature.

USB-C and usb 2/3 are not the same thing. You can have a standards compliant USB-C port shape that delivers USB2 speeds which is what the non-pro has and a USB-C port that implements USB3 which is what the pro has. What arstechnica says is that in bot cases for the Pro and non-pro Apple delivered a standard usb implementation with no additional proprietary requirements
