  • Agree to disagree. I think AOC would clean up in a primary, but she’s not popular outside of her party or outside of the city. Like I said, current polling has Hochul and Blakeman practically neck-and-neck.

Between Long Island, the Southern Tier, and the North Country, damn near half the state is conservative. While the city is getting better under Mamdani, the yokels up here are railing against sharia law and screaming that solar panels are destroying arable farmland. The legislature repealed the state’s climate goals this year, and shitheads like Gendebien are normalizing transphobia in the Democratic party to court votes.

And Zeldin and Blakeman are excellent examples with regards to voter turnout: the reason Republicans underperform in statewide races in New York is because a lot of Republicans assume they’re going to lose and stay home. When Zeldin actually gained some traction, more conservatives started going to the polls. His primary had the highest voter turnout in a New York Republican primary in twenty years. In the general, half a million more voters came out for Zeldin than they did for Molinaro in 2018.

But, yes, agreed that Hochul is nearly as bad as Schumer.

This is untrue. Margins for restaurants are razor-thin. They could only raise wages and eliminate the need for tips by raising prices, but then people wouldn’t eat there because everywhere else looks cheaper. Because customers are dumb and don’t think about how much tips cost, just what the menu price says.

  • I remember when I was 17, I went to a Haunted Hay Ride with the girl I was dating at the time. Halfway through the ride, they stopped it and a bunch of witches came out to give everyone cider and donuts. The witch that served me was wearing full gross-old-witch makeup and jokingly flirting with me, so I started flirting back.

Just as the ride started up again, I said, “So hey, what’s your number?”

And she yelled, “SEVEN!” and ran cackling into the woods.

It remains one of the funniest things I’ve ever experienced firsthand.

  • What it’s actually highlighted is how overworked and underpaid everyone is now. When a single salary could comfortably support a whole family, people had more time. When only one person needed to leave the house to earn money, the rest of the family had time during the day to help with the domestic work: dishes, laundry, gardening, etc. Then the evenings could be spent indulging hobbies.

Now that we live in a world where you need to have a dual income to barely get by, both partners are working 8-10 hours per day for the paycheck and then coming home to another 2-3 hours of domestic work. It’s fucking exhausting and there isn’t time to focus on quilting, whittling, playing music, or any of the other fun and creative hobbies that my grandparents got to be into.

So these AIdiot tech bros come along and offer to sell you the feeling of doing those hobbies without having to spend the time or energy to actually do them? It’s shitty, but I understand why a lot of people are taking that deal.

  • Dude let his wife for another woman. People don’t do that out of the blue. If he had gotten a divorce and then met the new girlfriend, that would be a very different story. But this? As presented? This guy decided to pursue a relationship with a woman despite his commitments to his wife.

He’s not a good guy just because he didn’t do anything physical with her first; at best, he’s slightly not-as-bad. But I think most people would be just as bothered by their partner daydreaming about running away with another person as they would be with their partner being physically intimate with another person.
