  • No tech bro has tried to sell me ai art. No tech bro is knocking on my door asking me to buy AI music.

I wish it was as easy to point to as that. Instead they are just trying to slowly poison the pool and then claim “see, you’ve been drinking AI the whole time!”

    • It pops up in art feeds all the time, and they get offended when called out on it. - It invades any kind of festival you can think of, like hackathons, and they argue with judges over why AI is banned (they just try to sneak it in anyway)
    • you’ll see AI fliers for local events and they say “its just a quick ad” when pointed out to, despite these kinds of festivals trying to attract artists (but won’t pay one for a design) .
    • and of course, anytime I look into a job, I have to be reminded that “you gotta learn AI, it’s the future! Don’t get left behind” as if my past 10 years of experience is invalidated by a slop generator that wouldn’t survive a QA pass nor art critique (“just wait a few more months!” Said every few months for 4 years).

I sure do wish it was just naive kids gushing over it. Perhaps as someone in the creative field I simply am destined to hear it a lot more since it’s become a trillion dollar racket that the powers that be so desperately want to say works. It’s well past the “I can just ignore this” stage for me.

  • If you’re arguing for diversity then you shouldn’t mind AI music.

well we come full circle back to the main topic and hit the paradox of tolerance. Someone trying to claim “Spotify, Apple Music, and Streaming in general is over” is not someone trying to embrace diversity and carve out a new road to potentially explore. They are stating an intent to conquer and extinguish.

I don’t have a problem with the concept of AI music, but I do with the kinds of people it seems to attract. So yeah, I can’t really support someone who simply sees art as an algorithm to “solve” and dismisses human made music as “obsolete”.

you should indiscriminately support it through government programs, local initiatives, and places of learning.

I do. But it’s not like I fund all art equally. I play a lot more video games than I listen t soundtracks, and I watch a lot more animation than I do plays. Art is diverse and you pick and choose what to consume or make for yourself.

That’s all I was saying when I said “I wouldn’t call myself a music guy”
