  • The United States is older than Italy. Italy wasn’t a unified nation until 1871. The United States became a country in 1776. And Italians did segregate into ethnic centers of cities in the United States. Chicago, New York, and St. Louis all have heavy italian presence within certain neighborhoods but even still lost their language. Italian dialects are not the same as regional accents. The nationalization of the italian language was still underway well into the 20th century. The Florentine dialect was only spoken by about 10% of the population in the 1870’s at most. It wasn’t until mass market radio and TV came along that it began to rapidly spread.

  • I hate where we are right now. Krishnamoorthi was an immediate out on my ballot. So it came down to Juliana Stratton and Robin Kelly. Juliana Stratton is more likely and is mentioned in the article to be the opposition to Krishnamoorthi but there was no mention of her refusal to declare the Israeli actions as genocide. Robin Kelly was the only candidate in the debate to label their actions a genocide and has verified that she does not receive AIPAC money. Stratton stopped short of calling it what it is. Saying what’s happening is terrible…thanks Stratton, can you tell me what color I see when I’m standing in a corn field next?

But the trouble comes in the Democratic primary’s single choice voting system. Krishnamoorthi is now using that to his advantage and using PACs to run ads in favor of Kelly to pull votes away from Stratton and boost his chances of getting the nomination. If the primary was run using ranked choice, I could have voted Kelly 1 and Stratton 2 to avoid this whole mess.

  • Yeah…no shit. We were promised PSLF and a fair income-driven repayment plan under Biden’s SAVE plan. In my situation that would have been $0 monthly payments for me and my wife over the course of our 10 years in public service as healthcare professionals. Essentially making our secondary education free for the exchange of being a net benefit to our community’s health and well-being.

Instead, since the SAVE plan was put in forbearance and is now looking like it’s going to be dismantled, we’ll have lost about a year’s worth of PSLF eligible payments, our monthly payments are going from $0 to about $500/mo, and as of now there’s no buyback on the lost term. Mohela knew what it was getting into by servicing all PSLF borrower’s loans. They consolidate the loans and in turn the federal government guarantees payment in full for a majority of those borrowers. Thus, Mohela doesn’t have to litigate wage garnishment on delinquent accounts. The fucking rug pull here is illegal and I plan to litigate. The SAVE plan allowed me the financial flexibility to purchase a house with a 30 year mortgage and finance a used vehicle to reliably get to work so of course I took that opportunity. It’d be stupid NOT to. There’s a reason all these college-educated people are delinquent. I’m just fortunate that I was VERY careful not to overextend myself back in 2020 knowing another Republican presidential candidate may try to fuck me. I didn’t think it would be Trump again.

  • I’ll be honest. After the initial Hamas attack I also thought Israeli response was acceptable. I didn’t know much of anything beyond Zionist propaganda. I learned the truth and now I can say with absolute certainty and conviction that Israel is an aggressor in more than just the Palestinian conflict(which is a genocide). It’s hard to know you’re in a propaganda bubble when the edge is on the other side of the world. But now that I know it’s there, it’s absolutely influencing my decisions in elections. I voted against an AIPAC candidate in the Democratic primary entirely because of their campaign funding sources.

  • I read the Wikipedia article and it looks like the NTSB concluded that conversation and the subsequent “test” they did were inconclusive as the root cause of the engine failure. That specific engine had numerous problems reported prior to the flight and had been taken off and replaced before having even more reported after. It seems to be just coincidental. What’s just as wild to me is that the passenger that was ejected from the plane was even wearing his seatbelt. Explosive decompression still said nuh uh and ripped him out the window.
