Also, we’re kind of already there, the main difference seems to be that we’re not sacrificing nobles en-mass (yet).
The wiki article makes it sound like a custom born of perceived resource scarcity where they would send some people away so the rest could have more.

Explain Like I'm Five@lemmy.world•Why is China selling US treasury bonds worrying?English
10·4 days agoUSA has been allowed to roleplay as world police using other people’s borrowed money to supplement oil revenue to pay for their army.
China’s push toward electrification & USA’s recent self-goals undermine the world order that USA has been perched on top of since WWII.
If the rest of the world collectively decides they’ve had enough of USA’s bullshit, they can just choose to stop lending money for nonsense like a dozen aircraft carriers full of F-35’s.
Among the consequences of living in such a world, is the various regional hegemonies would need to arm themselves to police their own backyards. Pakistan and India. Saudi Arabia, UAE and Iran. Russia and EU. If they all got a cut of the global military production that today arms USA, would they use it against each other?

8·7 days agoYeah, allowing ICE funding to be discussed separately was a tactical error. It gives up too much leverage and weakens their negotiating position.

67·11 days agoThe old guard of human operated propaganda farms feel threatened by having their playing field leveled. They’re scared that non-capitalists may now have the means to have their voices heard over the cacophonous noise of the billionaire owned media and government sponsored troll farms.

Computer RPG Games@lemmy.world•Bethesda's former Elder Scrolls loremaster on why he left, Starfield's 'communication breakdowns', and how he wanted The Elder Scrolls 6 'to be The Empire Strikes Back'English
21·21 days agoWhy does The Empire still exist? Its a relic of the bargain struck between Akatosh and mortals . . . a deal broken by Akatosh when he killed Martin Septim during The Oblivion Crisis. Emperor Uriel Septim VII was the last one to rule through divine right. By the time Alduin returns, the Empire has become a purely secular failed state that can’t guard its own borders.
If the Thalmor weren’t trying to blow up the world, the Empire would probably have crumbled under the weigh of its own corruption and irrelevance.

Fallout@lemmy.world•Fallout: London hasn't developed into a Fallout 4-esque hub of new quest and expansion mods so far, and its lead has theories whyEnglish
5·24 days agoI found Fallout: London hard to get into.
Enemies have too much health and there’s not enough ammo to chew through it all. Which would be fine if melee was viable, but its not because the player’s damage output and health total is too far behind the enemies.
I was disappointed to find that Red Dead Redemption 2 is just a linear series of cutscenes without any real player agency - more graphic novel than game. I thought it was going to be Skyrim with guns when I bought it. Its the last game I’ll buy without demoing/pirating first.

The text doesn’t matter if its not enforced, so no, not at the moment. Changing the text won’t help though if the people we elect to enforce the rules continue to do crime instead.
