The rate of e-bike and powered scooter injuries surged between 2019 and 2022-- by 293 percent and 88 percent, respectively, according to a new study at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
Makes sense given the rise in popularity, wear your protective gear out there folks: Injuries suck and so does recovery.
my first thought was: More injuries among people doing activity that is seeing more people take up said activity? Didn’t see that coming.
When I use my E-scooter to commute, I slide on a cheap pair of knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards, but over time they are starting to fall apart. Any recommendations on a decent protective gear including slim knee pads that I can wear under my slacks?
I’d rather not wear them over the pants since they wrinkle the clothing.
How fast are you going?
~20mph. It’s an older ninbot max.
187 Killer Pads would probably do the trick but FYI they also sell pants that support protective inserts if you wanted to go a different route. Your weight is also a factor, the more you weigh the more substantial padding you’d want because force = mass x acceleration
I read that as microtonality
Bikes are so dangerous! Imagine all the scrapes and bruises! Not like the safety of cars or trains or airplanes. 99% safe! Sure you can run over bikes with all three, you can die in the accident in all three and the only difference is how many fractured bones each can provide…car…from 1 rib to all bones broken and entrails squeezed out like toothpaste…train… complete instantaneous chopping of any body part… airplane…from 1 rib, to chopped up parts, to liquification, misting or powdering plus extreme heat if you’re lucky. But not as dangerous as a bike.
