Super disappointed if they’re doing this off-device. If we’re getting more language model crap, at least make it local, please.

The problem is notably “powerful”, AIs need pretty significant hardware to run well

As an example the snapdragon NPUs I think can barely handle 7B models.

recent demo from Microsoft showed how its GPT-4o-powered Copilot assistant could watch the screen to do things like give tips on how to play Minecraft.

And some people still wonders why the dumb phones are getting popular again.

I’m only using Siri to set a timer for cooking or laundry.

I don’t feel like it’s reliable enough to use it for anything else.

If some people are using it a lot, could you tell me what for?

I’d want it to assist me in a calendar and the organization of my kids custody, but it’s really not ready for important things with particularities…

I use it on a Homepod Mini to toggle different lights and a fan. In my previous apartment I used it to control a window AC. Sometimes I tell it to pause my AppleTV if I can’t find the remote quick enough. I use it with FindMy when I lose my keys or bag or whatever else (I have a lot of AirTags). Other than controlling devices I mostly use it for weather reports and timers.

It’s handy when I’m riding my motorcycle and I want to give the phone commands as I keep my phone in my pocket. I have a shortcut where I say, “Go Home” and it launches Waze with my home as the destination.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Apple is planning a big AI update for Siri, and it could give you the ability to control specific iPhone app features with your voice, according to a report from Bloomberg.

As noted by Bloomberg, the update will allow Siri to analyze the activity on your phone while turning on Siri-controlled features automatically.

It’s unclear how the technology will work exactly, but a recent demo from Microsoft showed how its GPT-4o-powered Copilot assistant could watch the screen to do things like give tips on how to play Minecraft.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that Apple will focus on handling many AI requests on-device.

The company is also reportedly planning to bring AI transcription to Voice Memos and Notes.

Even if a new Siri isn’t expected to arrive until next year, we’re bound to get a glimpse of what Apple’s been working on during WWDC on June 10th.
