I asked Google Bard whether it thought Web Environment Integrity was a good or bad idea. Surprisingly, not only did it respond that it was a bad idea, it even went on to urge Google to drop the proposal.
The AI is already turning against its creator, lol.
We built Skynet, look at us!
Oh no…
AI feed from various types of information, in this case public information. Public information about WEI consist of a bunch of tech articles criticizing it. Thus, the AI tells you WEI is bad. It’s as worthless as the majority of AI based replies about certain topics because it will just summarize popular opinions, as that is the majority of its dataset on a given topic.
It might depends on the AI.
I can’t speak for Bard, but ChatGPT’s data isn’t any more recent than 2021. As it often reminds me.
Useless? :/
I know. I just thought it was a bit ironic seeing such a strongly worded response from it.
“Third, WEI could be used to collect user data.”
ding ding ding
Don’t forget that google is an ad-company.

I mean the idea for WEI is to combat bots and AI so it isn’t really surprising AI is going to be against it.
But seriously, Bard is just consolidating what it finds on the internet (it’s not intelligent), so all this really says is that there are plenty of web articles against AI in its search database.
Wtf, I like bard now?
What’s with all these shitty archive sites, they are so unreliable I’d almost prefer a paywall
He’s from lemmy.world, stability doesn’t matter to him :D
My home instance lemmy.fmhy.net has been down for a week, looks like the whole datacentre got nuked
wtf that sucks
From Charybdis to Scylla
But on the other side it is going to say:
„I believe that the potential harms of WEI outweigh the potential benefits. I urge Google to abandon this proposal and to find a more privacy-friendly way to improve web security.“
I see your point, but this seems to be hyped a little bit
The same as Bing

Google has a proven track record of being very insecure. Obviously if they implement this standard we should just implement the API on all of our sites to have it only block people using chrome, chromeos or a pixel device and purple who directed to or sites via a Google search.
archive.is links are broken in firefox due to unsolvable recaptcha
Also broken in Chrome for me.
