Man cites 'development reasons' for running over plover chicks in nest with ute - eviltoast

Warning: This article contains details of animal cruelty that some readers may find distressing.

Another 40 lashes with a wet lettuce leaf for animal cruelty. RSPCA would have spent thousands in dollar terms alone getting this to court, let alone the lost hours cost, and this feral bogan (in a dual cab 4x4 - what a surprise) gets off with a fine that would cost less than one replacement muddy for his sick rig.

After a lengthy investigation involving Parks and Wildlife, RSPCA and witnesses, the man received a “formal warning” and a $718 fine.

They’re pretty dangerous if you’re walking or riding around near them. I’d like to see some sort of action from government to get rid of them.

I’m not fond of the birds either but they can stay.

      How do you figure??

I feel like I’m crazy pills with people saying they’re dangerous and need to be moved on. They’re about as deadly as a budgiee. If obnoxious noises scare you I hope you don’t live anywhere near a VW Golf or V8 Landcruiser owner.

I thought you meant the bogans, get rid of them and the big dumb ute problem will solve itself with nobody to buy them

The fine of $718 is absolutely ridiculous, that moron shouldn’t be allowed to drive and the fine levied should be the maximum.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

A man has been fined $718 after he was caught on video crushing three plover chicks to death in a vacant Brisbane lot.

“As he is driving over the nest, the parents of the chicks were squawking and flapping their wings in a futile attempt to prevent it,” Mr Christensen said.

In interviews with Parks and Wildlife officers, the man said he wanted to move the birds away from the vacant lot for “development reasons”.

Parks and Wildlife said the three chicks were masked lapwing plovers and would have naturally moved from the area in a matter of weeks.

Masked lapwings are a protected native species that build nests on the ground, where they guard their chicks for about six weeks.

After a lengthy investigation involving Parks and Wildlife, RSPCA and witnesses, the man received a “formal warning” and a $718 fine.

I’m not defending the action of running the birds over. However the ABC’s recommendation of hire a wildlife relocation team is fucked. So in other words, fuck you if you’re poor and have a bird problem.

BTW Is is possible to contact the local council and have them deal with it?

I’m not entirely sure that having a plover nearby is really a “bird problem” though, is it? We’ve got them everywhere near us and aside from a bit of aural pollution they have zero impact on my life.
