Definitely staying on TestFlight for now. Too many updates happening too fast. App Store approval process is going to create a perpetual lag in features and fixes.
Glad to see that it got approved finally. I’m going to stick with the TestFlight build until the app is no longer there just due to how rapidly it’s changing, but I’m stoked to switch over once things stabilize a bit and hope that there will be subscriptions available to support app dev straight through the app in the near future.
Happy to support the developer. Just hoping for a lifetime Apollo ultra equivalent onetime payment. The subscriptions are killer but I get why we need them sometimes.
I’ll do a one-time payment gladly — I did with Apollo — but not a subscription.
I hope both options exist, but as I get to understand the ins and outs of the Fediverse and the work that goes into maintaining these systems, I’m personally leaning toward small recurring subscriptions for both my instance provider and the app I use. I’d love it if Lemmy stayed free of corporate overreach, algorithmic content manipulation, and rampant advertising. The way to accomplish that is to make sure things can operate without outside sponsorship.
Both options is the best way, I agree. Easy enough to do, at least on iOS. Let users choose.
Ditto. I’ll throw down a nice chunky one payment and would be good if a link to tip jar is placed in the app too
Same
Currently no plans for a subscription, you can tip gk though through buy me a coffee. Maybe at most we would have to start charging a very cheap subscription for push notifications. Other than that no plans to lock any kinds of features behind a paywall
That sounds more than reasonable to me, and it’s gonna be a huge deal for wider Lemmy adoption. Thank you so much, all of you!
First, thanks for your work on this app. It’s great. Obviously it’s none of our business if you choose not to monetize this app in some way. Long term though, wouldn’t it make sense to charge at least a small amount to cover your development and have money to, you know, live? People will line up to pay for a good, well developed app - just like they did with Apollo.
That’s fair, i do have a full time job as well that pays the bills, just doing this in my free time. We may explore the option in the future, who knows, but at the moment we don’t plan to.
I more meant as a way to support continued development similar to how Apollo worked. Even if “premium” users got no benefit, I’d still like to have the option of supporting continued development straight through the app store. I’ve tipped through the coffee site already, but that requires me to remember to do it more than once. 😂
I don’t know how they’d do it with apple tax and all but I’d love a way to support both the app developer and my instance host via an App Store subscription (I like seeing them all in one place)
That’s an interesting thought. Right now I’m supporting my instance through a Patreon subscription, but I agree that having the option to have it all in one place would be nice.

Beat me to it. Just not sure which one I should stick with for now, TestFlight or App Store but great news either way!
TestFlight, because there will still be a lot of updates incoming each day and the AppStore approval process isn’t fast.
This question isn’t necessarily directed to OP, but anyone who might know. Should we download the App Store version or keep the TestFlight one?
The test flight one will have the most up to date builds and more frequent updates.
Assuming one was able to get the TestFlight version. Apple caps the number of testers and the beta is full.
I’ve been trying for days to join because I’d like to help develop a good Apollo replacement but every attempt has been rejected.
I’m trying to help with Mlem, but it’s really glitchy. I guess we’ll see in the end which one I stick with.
I started with Mlem and felt like it was going to be the better app, but Memmy definitely pulled ahead. It is significantly better at this point.
If you want to help contribute reach out to us in Discord, we can likely help get your dev environment set up and get you a TestFlight spot
Not much of a programmer, alas (I’ve dabbled in hobby Lua a bit) — just like poking at betas and giving feedback. I know that’s just as valuable.
Now that I finally got the store version, I like this app a lot, but not sure how best to give feedback. There’s no way to submit my screenshots that I can see for suggestions, etc.
Ahh gotchya. The best way to give us feedback is submitting issues on GitHub, we don’t really have the time to go through TestFlight screenshots, most of them end up being completely useless anyways with no description
Oh oof I’ve sent a handful of TestFlight screenshots (with descriptions), should I just stop?

Congratulations @gkd@lemmy.ml and the team!
I want to give it 5* but it looks like I would need to download the app store version
It’s currently number 40-something in Social Networking apps.
Downloading instead of using Test Flight makes a difference.
#31 in australian app store. And yes I did download it, gave a 5* and an actual review, then deleted and reinstalled the test flight version. All worked perfecty
Downloaded because of this post. Thanks! Loving wefwef but having a local app is really nice
But the flight test version will always be the latest.
Installed it from the App Store so I could give it a rating and a review. Then installed the TestFlight version again to be back on the bleeding edge
I’m sticking with the testfight beta, but if you do install it, remember to give it a good rating!
You can install the official app and then re-install the test flight version. I just did to leave a review!
Just found it too and hopped right over here! I’m very excited to be here at this moment!
Sick, fucking congratulations everyone.
This is my current favorite app by far
Make sure y’all download the official version and leave a review! You can go right back to test flight version after.

Congrats to the devs!
