    Give me a small pickup with 4 wheel drive that can do 100 miles in super cold shitty weather. I don’t want power anything and a basic radio with an aux input sould be sufficient. 30k would be a reasonable price I think.

    Yeah no shit. Every hyped new EV is more expensive than the last. They just discontinued the cheapest EV you can buy in the US (the Chevy Bolt) and they say they’re going to replace it with an equivalent on the new platform but I will eat my hat if it’s not more expensive than the Bolt.

    And of course the Cybertruck finally comes out, years too late and significantly more expensive than originally hyped.

    People WANT to drive EV’s but they need to make them affordable to regular people.

    They claim the battery s the big expense but here’s the thing: I have a PHEV with like 35 miles of electric range that is perfectly fine on electric only for weeks at a time. Sure, lots of people need EV’s with huge range. But TONS of people don’t! I suspect the first mfr to clue into that will make money hand over fist.

    I’ve been saying that shit from the beginning. Make reasonably priced EVs for the masses and they will sell. Also most of us can’t afford $30-40k+ for a new car. I also have no use for a gigantic truck or SUV. Gimme small, easy to drive, less annoying tech, and inexpensive.

      It’s not just a problem with EVs either. Gas powered cars keep getting larger and more expensive too. Ford has stopped selling sedans and compacts in North America altogether for example. VW got rid of the two door Golf and the Beetle. Fiat stopped selling the 500 in the US. You can’t buy a truck like the Chevy LUV anymore.

    This is why the Chinese manufacturers are doing so well. Instead of telling people what they should want, the Chinese have asked people what they want, then made exactly that.

    They can’t do it profitably, so repeatedly saying this is pointless.

    They need to learn how to make EVs profitably first. Then they can make a large scale smaller one.

    Otherwise they’ll just bankrupt themselves.

    GM is finally starting to say their EVs will be profitable in 2024 and that’s with higher margin vehicles. And I’m still skeptical it’ll be true, but hopefully they can pull if off.

    Pro car comment but the fact that batteries and most ways of charging are not green. If they really wanna stick to EVs then focus on ev trains and buses and with that a better public transportation infrastructure.
