Honestly it’s either or. I knew a couple of guys back in uni, one Indian the other Pakistani and they were really tight. Maybe it’s just the narrow minded bigots who blindly hate another because of political history rather than treat them as an individual.

Also knew an Israeli and a Palestinian (weren’t tight as such but were friendly with each other).

Honestly, it’s a love-hate relationship. There’s nobody they hate more than the other, at the same time there’s nobody who understands them better than the other.

Even then, the hate is mostly political. It’s politically beneficial to both countries to keep the hate flowing.

Which, the British Empire didn’t particularly give a shit about telling them apart when they drew the new “independent” borders in South Asia either. Tons of current problems in the region can be traced back to British colonialism and their divide and conquer strategy, surprise surprise.

It’s been seventy years now. How long do you think dead Britons will have more responsibility for and power over India and Pakistan than the people in those countries?

? They actually spent a lot of time looking over census data to see where the majorities were. That’s why some of the lines are so weird.

You’re misunderstanding the issue. The British tried to fix certain issues that really didn’t need fixing. To their credit they did abolish a few insane practices, but the partition was never gonna be a good thing.

I’m not a historian. I’m just recounting stuff I’ve been taught.

From what I know, when Britain left India they really did need to partition it. I’ve never heard anyone say wanted India and Pakistan to be one.

So you’ve never talked to Indians or Pakistanis about partition.

Because partition was a mistake and letting a nation being found on the basis of religion was terrible, and you can literally see it with how politically unstable Pakistan has been and how they are housing terrorists like Dawood or funding them.

spending five weeks to decide fate of 80 million people without even visiting the place in person isn’t spending “a lot of time.”

I used to work with this lifted-truck literally red-necked red neck. He kept going on about how hot his girl was, and how white she was.

One day he shows me her picture, and she was indeed a very hot dark skinned Latina. Some people are just in denial.

A lot of Latin American people see themselves as white and would get very offended if you suggest otherwise
Edit: Sorry I had no idea latinx was offensive

Having had this conversation with literally 300+ hispanic people, never once has a single one had a single positive thought about “latinx”. Gendered nouns is literally a large part of their language.

Fun fact; English used to have three genders --masculine, feminine and neuter-- like most of the other Germanic languages, but they got stripped out over the years for historical reasons having to do with the Danelaw and the Norman conquest and are gone by the time of filthy old Chaucer.

Yea the whole thing started and is mostly used by a fringe people who are going a tad too far with political correctness.

Mind you, I’m fine with political correctness and I’m left leaning but sometimes you can go to far.

But if someone wants to be referred to by those terms then be my guest.

Genered nouns is the backbone of so many goddamn languages. The people being offended by it are the ones that don’t speak that tongue.

Only Americans seem to draw a distinction between Spanish descendents other European descendents. Presumably because they’re poor and on the wrong side of a line someone drew on a map.

Antonio Banderas was bemused when he was labelled a “person of colour”.

Yes I’ve had this argument with some Latino people. I guess they don’t to be on the shitside of the stratification, but the racist whites hate them as well.

As mentioned in the thread, self-hatred or the guy being Pakistani are two likely explanations. Maybe a third scenario could be he was testing if Anon was racist against Indians as well before presenting himself.
