That’s good, because it’s a delicate and complex situation.
For decades, almost any criticism of Israel was labelled as antisemitism. The media and government is finally starting to realize that Netenyahu is an extremely clever genocidal maniac who has leant on that belief as long as he’s been in authority.
So we have Israel carrying out a policy of systematic genocide, and doing everything they can to conflate Judaism with Israel. Meanwhile, you have Hamas doing almost exactly the same thing on the other side of the battle - claiming to speak for all Palestinians while waging a war of genocide against Israel (although not nearly as systematic or methodical as Israel).
Both of these groups have done everything they can to tie their religious identity to their geopolitical existence: Hamas <==> Palestine, Jews <==> Israel. In reality, there are probably a lot more citizens on the ground on other side of the conflict who just want to get up, go to work, raise their families, and live their lives without worrying about being shot, bombed, or invaded.
So if Trudeau is trying to avoid stepping in the “We’re with Israel!” or “We’re with Palestine” camp, good for him.
If our politicians and government cared as much about Canadians, as they do the citizens of nations across the planet, we wouldn’t be drowning in rising costs of living, pathetic wages and housing costs.
Seems all I hear is foreign affairs and scandals, while Canadian citizens get ignored and drown.
Edit: To the people downvoting or saying Canada doesn’t live in a vacuum and needs to help, I’m a Canadian who is living in the red, who’s wages aren’t enough to survive. Tell me how worrying about the middle east helps my day to day situation in any way shape or form? If I was wealthy or not drowning in debt I could be compelled to care, but currently that’s not my priority or problem. Tell me again about how my frustrations with the current financial situation of working Canadians is not the government of Canada’s problems, but a country in the middle east is.
Canada doesn’t exist in a vacuum, neither does it’s issues.
Right, but the every day issues of working class Canadians are outright being ignored. How can you take care of another nation when you can’t even feed your own people?
While you’re not wrong the liberals are actively waging class war, we sell weapons to the Israeli state and the IDF trains Canadian police forces and recruits children from our hoghschools to their army.
We absolutely are not neutral in the genocide of Palestinians and the war there has direct social and material consequences for us. Working class people also can’t pretend global issiues don’t effect us or were truly being deaf, dumb and blind.
I'm a Canadian who is living in the red, who's wages aren't enough to survive
Looking at federal vs provincial jurisdictions I can guarantee that your problems can mostly be resolved at the provincial level and the federal government has little to no power over your condition so you’re barking at the wrong tree.
