For some reason my Hive Integration in @homeassistant just stopped working about an hour ago. This coincided with the hive hub losing connection to the boiler which i have since resolved by following it’s troubleshooting steps, and all my hive devices are working and connected to the cloud, but the entities in #homeassistant are still showing as unavailable. Has anyone else experienced problems like this with #hive and Home Assistant?
@sudoaptgetlife @homeassistant Yes, it’s not the most reliable. So, I’ve my hub linked to HA via HomeKit, so at least it appears to HA as a thermostat. Works at a push when (not if) Hive’s servers are down.
@ZS @homeassistant weirdly enough i have it connected the other way round lol. I have the Hub connected directly to homeassistant via the Hive (cloud) integration and it is served to my apple devices via the homekit integration. I don’t have any other homekit servers unfortunately. I also use the Hive thermostat for triggering automations in HA based on the temperature it’s reporting, so not having access in HA could have a knock on effect for other devices.
@sudoaptgetlife @homeassistant I used the HomeKit integration in HA, which I used to pair the Hive hub using its HomeKit pairing code, which in turn gives me a Bridge device (the Hive hub), and then a device below that that’s the Hive room stat.
I also have automations running using the temps from the Hive stat, and others that control the Hive system when other thermometers hit certain thresholds (eg turning on the heating if the pipes in the kitchen or garage are at risk of freezing, using the temperature sensor on Shelly Flood devices).
@ZS @homeassistant Oh cool, I didn’t know you could pair devices directly with the Homekit integration, i always assumed you had to connect devices with their respective integrations in HA first for the Homekit integration to see them.
@sudoaptgetlife @homeassistant No, I don’t have the Hive integration installed at all, because it’s a dumpster fire like the Hive app.
I have all the parts here to make my own system (two ZigBee relays and some ZigBee thermometers), just never got round to actually wiring them in. 🙄
@homeassistant I think i spoke to soon, its not working in the hive app anymore either and now the troubleshooting steps in app are failing to fix the issue this time around. I suspect it’s a hive issue rather than home assistant.
@homeassistant boiler and thermostat are showing as connected in the Hive Mobile app again but still unavailable in Home Assistant.
@homeassistant tried rebooting my Home Assistant Server again and the Hive Entities are showing as available and appear to be working again. So near enough certain the issue was at Hive’s end but neither the app or their (frankly useless) customer service team could give any indication what the cause was.
IS there any #OpenSource smart thermostats and boiler interfaces available that are compatible with #Homeassistant ? if not open source, are there any that at least aren’t cloud connected?

@ro @homeassistant No, it seems like too much of a faff to set up, maybe if/when Hive stop supporting my devices altogether. TBH I’m not interested in an alternative solution unless it’s as easy to set up as the original hive integration. If i have to buy more kit, especially development boards or learn how to code in some programming language then it’s an instant no for me.

@linickx @homeassistant Good to know, Likewise i don’t think i want to risk it right now so I will probably wait until they drop support for my device before i attempt that. Cheers!
